Final Entry This entry should be a personal reflection on your growth of understanding of teaching, this demographic of students, and the educational situation in Louisiana. Look back to your first entry; make specific references to this entry in explaining how your perspective has changed or why it has not. Explain how specific readings have affected your thinking. Explain how specific class conversations have affected your thinking. Explain how specific service experiences have changed your thinking. You may need to again be uncomfortably honest with yourself.

Service Learning (#2/2)

Reflections on Your Service Experiences (recommended ASAP after you go attend a service event) Keep your description of what occurred to a minimum. I want you to go beyond factual information and describe the implications of what you experienced, what barriers to progress (for the H.S. students) you experienced and how you sought/will seek to overcome those barriers this summer.

Cultural Capital

A Reflection on Cultural Capital. Provide three specific/concrete examples of possessing or lacking Cultural Capital and how that stance affected you or someone close to you in that situation. Follow this up with your thoughts on the moral implications of considering these events in this light.  

Constructivism

A Reflection on constructivism. In your own words summarize the main concepts of Constructivism. Be succinct as possible; boil this down to key features. (No more than a paragraph) Then use the other 80% of this entry to describe how these ideas relate to the FOCUS summer program. How will you create a constructivist environment for the summer students?

Something totally different (due before the end of the semester)

Something completely different/off the wall/off the beaten path Test your creativity. This entry does NOT have to be traditional in ANY way except that I have to be able to physically see/hear/experience it in some way and it has to relate to FOCUS.

Journal Entry #2 (Due March 1)

A Reflection on Public Education in Louisiana. In your own words summarize the main issues surrounding public education in Louisiana. How does this relate to private education in Louisiana? Why does this matter? Who are the heroes in the story of Louisiana education? Who are the villains? What would be best for the students? What would be best for the state? If you were the governor what would you do (would education be a priority and how would you address the issues)?
